Frequently Asked Questions
What is a DUA and when is it required?
The DUA (Documento Único Administrativo) is the standard customs declaration for imports into and exports from the EU. It is required for all shipments crossing an EU external border — including arrivals at Spanish ports from non-EU countries and departures to non-EU destinations.
What does OEA/AEO certification mean for my shipments?
OEA (Operador Económico Autorizado) / AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) is an EU customs quality mark. Our OEA status means we receive priority treatment at borders, reduced documentary checks and faster release of goods — benefits we pass on to our clients.
Which Spanish ports do you operate at?
We operate at all major Spanish ports: Algeciras, Málaga, Valencia, Barcelona, Bilbao, Vigo, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. For specialist destinations (Melilla, Ceuta), we have dedicated agents on the ground.
What documents are typically required for port customs clearance?
Standard documents include: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or air waybill, certificate of origin (if applicable), and any product-specific certificates (phytosanitary, health, conformity). We advise on the specific requirements for each commodity.
How long does customs clearance take at Spanish ports?
With our OEA status and pre-lodgement procedures, most shipments are cleared within 24 hours of vessel/aircraft arrival. Complex cases (documentary checks, physical inspection) may take 48–72 hours. We proactively monitor all declarations and alert you to any issues.
Can you handle customs for shipments to the Canary Islands and Ceuta?
Yes. The Canary Islands are outside the EU customs territory and require full import declarations (DUA) with IGIC/AIEM assessment. Ceuta is similarly a special customs territory. We have specific expertise and local presence for both destinations.
What is the NCTS transit procedure?
NCTS (New Computerised Transit System) is the EU electronic system for managing customs transit. It allows goods to move under customs control across multiple EU member states without paying duties at each border. We use NCTS for all transit movements through Spain.
